Role Overview
The Portfolio Associate role will play a key role in enabling FFA to achieve its vision of being the best partner for early-stage entrepreneurs in Africa. The Portfolio Associate will provide lead support in portfolio value creation, reporting and content development, and executing FFA’s network strategy and partner experience. The portfolio associate will work closely with FFA’s Portfolio, Investments and Communications and Community teams.
Responsibilities
Portfolio value creation
- Working with select portfolio companies on business strategy, growth plans, financial models/valuations, pitch decks and investor narratives/strategies
- Mapping the portfolio companies value chains to inform portfolio synergies, partnerships and collaborations
- Conducting market & industry research to inform the portfolio’s strategic priorities, partnerships & exit opportunities
- Developing and deploying value-add quarterly content and experiences for Founders
- Own the engagement strategy & management of third parties for portfolio value addition, such as business mentors/advisors, founder coaches, executive coaching, sales consultancy etc
Reporting
- Working closely with the Head of Portfolio and Data analyst to provide support in the delivery of monthly and quarterly portfolio reviews and board reports
Community engagement
- Execution of internally curated founder convenings – including support on curating content, convening speakers, and workshop delivery
- Scanning and prioritising external events that are strategic for portfolio companies, and preparing portfolio companies’ attendance, including support in outreach, sourcing speaking opportunities and budgeting
- Managing the online forums such as founder slack groups to ensure that portfolio companies are getting the most out of the engagement with high signal and low noise. This will include proactively searching and sharing relevant opportunities – such as fundings, events, competitions – that will contribute to portfolio companies growth
Success in this role will be determined by:
Ability to unlock portfolio wins through analysis, content delivery and network engagement.
Required experience and skills

- 3-4 years proven experience working in an analyst role, preferably in venture capital or startup environment – a huge plus if experience is in Africa
- A natural inclination to content curation and network engagement
- Strong project management skills
- Excellent communicator and supreme collaboration skill
- A self-starter who thrives in an autonomous role, with excellent prioritisation, self-organisation, and execution skills
- Well plugged in to the startup ecosystem and tuned into the needs of founders
